Some of those on the fence may be overwhelmed with the day to day responsibilities of producing a film and may lose sight of the point. This is a means to an end and just because your passion doesn't strictly fall under the category of producer doesn't mean you don't have the capacity or incentive to carry out some of those functions.
You may not want to be a film producer ever again after your first film. You may want to be a director and have a "real" producer do all this hard, boring stuff. This would be a route to that. Directors who get films made get to make more films. There is no better way to convey your skills as a film artist of any kind than with a feature film. You may be an actor that wants to just act. You may get the chance if you can give yourself your first break.
You may be inclined to empire. You may want a studio of your own. In addition to other skills, you may come to enjoy producing films and want to do it for the rest of your life. For this person producing the first film is a no-brainer, but would they have ever discovered this gift had they not taken the steps in the first place? You may not think you are this kind of person and be surprised at the end of the process.
Some may see it as a shallow to pursue fame for fame's sake. Regardless, producing a film for you to star is a great way to get people to shower you with attention. You can audition for years without fruit from the labor or you can put maximum effort into making a film with you at the center and have a better chance of achieving the ends you desire.
A film is no better than the people that make up the crew. So you want to make the best movies by working with the best. But how do you find them and gain their trust? Film artists respond to films. Lots of people have the gift of gab but if you can make a decent film you are a cut above. This first film may not be your best but if it's remarkable in any way people will be drawn to it and you as the producer.
Producing a film yourself is much harder than creating a director's reel, going on auditions, or relying on others to produce. For motivated film artists it's a viable way to create a career or business. There will be times you don't know what you're doing and days of pure frustration. Just keep in mind why you are doing all this and your resourcefulness will come to the fore and put you ahead of the others that just wait for opportunities rather than creating them.
